President Emmanuel Macron announced last June the establishment of a consulate general in Nuuk. At the same time, US President Donald Trump was repeatedly talking about his desire to control Greenland, which belongs to Denmark. The German Foreign Ministry said that 'the German government is already consulary represented in Greenland through an honorary consul', explaining that the opening of a consulate is not currently on the table. France announced on Friday the opening of a consulate general in Greenland, becoming the first European Union country to take this step, according to its statements.
